Ithaca College is participating in a nationwide initiative to provide a comprehensive resource for prospective students and their families who are seeking help in making their higher education choices. The web-based project, called the University and College Accountability Network (U-CAN), offers free online access to information about hundreds of private colleges and universities across the country.

U-CAN is designed to give data and narrative information in a concise, consumer-friendly format that is consistent across all of the participating institutions. The information covers topics of greatest interest to prospective students and parents, including admissions, academics, student demographics, graduation rates, most common fields of study, accreditation, faculty information, class size, tuition and fees trends, financial aid, campus housing, student life, and campus safety.

U-CAN was developed by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) as an alternative to guidebooks that purport to rank institutions based on reputational surveys and other selective criteria. By providing access to objective and measurable data that is supplemented by targeted hyperlinks to an institution's website, U-CAN offers consumers the information they need to make their own evaluations and choose the college that is the best fit for them.
