The Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin Trio -- performing on violin and viola, piano, and clarinet respectively -- will give this year's performance in the annual Shirley and Chas Hockett Chamber Music Concert Series at Ithaca College. Named after two longtime educators, the series honors the Hocketts' love of music and devotion to Ithaca College and its School of Music. The free concert will take place on Friday, October 12, at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.

The program includes Mozart's "Kegelstadt" Trio, Stravinsky's own arrangement of his "L'Histoire du Soldate," and music by Bruch and Bartók.

After 25 years of friendship and music-making, Ani Kavafian, Andre-Michel Schub, and David Shifrin -- each a true virtuoso and a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center -- come together as a trio with undeniable chemistry.

"The spontaneity, the excitement, and the fun we have playing together is beyond what we ever anticipated," Kavafian said, speaking for the group, which has performed with nearly every major orchestra around the world and in recital at the major concert halls.

Violinist Ani Kavafian is one of the most sought-after chamber musicians in the country as well as a frequent soloist and professor of violin at Yale University. As a piano recitalist, orchestra soloist, and chamber musician, Andre-Michel Schub has been praised by critics and audiences since his career began over three decades ago. Clarinetist David Shifrin has appeared in critically acclaimed recitals across the country and is a frequent orchestra soloist with major orchestras.
