Alfie Kohn, a nationally acclaimed education writer, will be speaking at Egbert Hall October 18 at 7:00 p.m.

His talk will focus on teaching students to care about themselves and others, the development of a school community, and the improvement of traditional school discipline. It is expected his talk will be stimulating and generate a lively discussion. His speech is the key note address for a conference co-sponsored by Ithaca College. The event is free for the Ithaca College community however; tickets need to be reserved in advance. Please email Michelle Lang at [mailto:mlang@ithaca.edu] to reserve a ticket before 10/16. A nominal fee of $7.00 will be charged at the door.

Alfie Kohn has written twelve books and over a hundred articles about education, parenting, and human behavior. He has been described in Time Magazine as "perhaps the country's most outspoken critic of education's fixation on grades [and] test scores." Kohn has been on many radio and talk shows including the Today Show and two guest appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Many of Kohn’s books will be available for purchase and he will available for brief book signing session.
