Junior and senior H&S students with outstanding academic records and financial aid eligibility are invited to apply for the Fred. L. Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award, which supports faculty-student collaborations on scholarly projects in the humanities.
The deadline to submit a formal proposal for projects taking place during the spring 2008 semester is Friday, November 2, by 4:00 p.m.
This award encourages both students and faculty in the Humanities to carry out professional collaborations in such areas as archival research, manuscript editing, and course development. The rewards are multiple: students learn to apply the knowledge and skills they have been developing in their coursework, deepen their understanding of what it really means to do scholarly work in the humanities, and make significant contributions to scholarship.
During the academic year, the award offers a stipend of $1,500 in one semester to enable student recipients to devote time and attention to the work required to succeed in such scholarly projects.
Both student applicants and their faculty mentors must submit materials as part of the proposal process. Specific guidelines, as well as application forms and information about previous awards, can be found at the award's website:
Fred L. Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award
Formal proposals for spring 2008 projects should be submitted by November 2 to the H&S dean's office in 201 Muller. Please note that we will invite proposals for summer and fall 2008 projects during the spring semester, so it is not too late to start planning ahead. (For summer/fall projects, current sophomores or juniors would be eligible candidates.)
Questions about eligibility, specific projects, or application procedures can be directed to assistant dean Stacia Zabusky (szabusky@ithaca.edu).
