Submitted on behalf of the Faculty/Staff Campaign Committee
The Faculty/Staff Campaign Committee issued a challenge, and IC employees answered the call, submitting entries for a list of “Top 10 Reasons We Love Working at Ithaca College.” Ranging from the earnest to the irreverent, the top 10 reasons would make even David Letterman proud.
Favorite themes were the many wellness and fitness opportunities (such as no. 5: A walk from Y lot to your office in the Towers is better than an hour in the Fitness Center!), the cultural and athletic events (no. 6: Where else can you see a spontaneous outdoor concert, a serious Frisbee tournament, or a staged protest all from your office window?), and the pervasive sense of community and family that characterizes the campus (no. 10: It’s always good “to go where everybody knows your name”—including Peggy!).
The complete list was officially unveiled on October 4 at an event that also included personal tributes by scholarship recipients. Christine Davie ’04, a programmer/analyst in Information Technology Services, gave a moving address about what it meant to not only earn her degree at Ithaca but also send three of her children here. Read Chris’s remarks in Intercom later this week.
During the October 4 event, we also raised $1,250 for the Faculty/Staff Endowed Scholarship, bringing the total to $24,454—just $546 shy of our goal. To find out more about the scholarship or to make a contribution, please go to the Faculty/Staff Campaign website.
