Ithaca College has received a very favorable rating from a new online tool that highlights LGBT-friendliness of colleges and universities.

The National LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index (www.campusclimateindex.org) was created in response to the increasing demand for tools and resources to support campuses in assessing LGBT-friendly programs, policies, and practices. Ithaca College received an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars on the index; and received a perfect 5 of 5 stars in five of the eight subcategories evaluated, including LGBT Counseling and Health, LGBT Campus Safety, and LGBT Student Life.

Every campus listed has participated in a comprehensive self-assessment process based on more than 50 questions under eight different LGBT-friendly categories. The index includes a premier campus spotlight as well as an Honor Roll that highlights campuses scoring a three-star rating or above.

Each participating campus has a public profile available for viewing, and a feature that allows visitors to choose an unlimited number of campuses to compare and request additional information. The index will be very helpful to prospective students and parents, as well as to participating institutions which are continuing to take stock of inclusion efforts.

The Center for LGBT Education, Outreach, and Services is delighted that Ithaca College received such a positive evaluation, and appreciative of everyone who contributes to our supportive campus environment for all students.
