The School of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to announce the fall 2007 Educational Grant Initiative Awards. These awards are supported by the generous donations by alumni to the H&S Ithaca Fund.
Thirty-seven applications were received from a variety of departments and programs to support educational opportunities for H&S students; approximately 78 percent of these proposals were funded in whole or part.
Almost $22,000 was distributed to support projects including:
* Students from biochemistry, math, and psychology presenting papers and posters based on their original research at academic conferences;
* Faculty-student research collaborations in chemistry, English, psychology, physics, and sociology;
* Support for courses including: a new interdisciplinary course, Chemistry and Art, co-taught by assistant professor and chemistry department chair Mike Haaf and associate professor and art history department chair Gary Wells; Religion, Ritual, and Virtual Reality, a new course taught by Rachel Wagner, assistant professor of philosophy and religion, in which students use cultural analysis to understand religious representation and experience in video games and online virtual worlds; and a residency by dancers from the Paul Taylor Dance Company, who will teach classes for dance minors in theatre arts.
