Kulmusik, Ithaca College's contemporary chamber ensemble, will present a free program, entitled "Friction Systems," on Tuesday, November 6, at 8:15 in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Guest faculty members included on this program will be clarinetist Richard Faria, hornist Alex Shuhan, cellist Elizabeth Simkin, pianist Jeffery Meyer, and violinist Susan Waterbury.

The program will include music composed in 1999 by Ithaca's own Karel Husa, and a cello sonata by Gyorgy Ligeti. Three 21st-century compositions round out the concert, including works entitled "Tight Sweater," "The Great Train Race," and "Friction Systems."

The ensemble focuses on recent chamber compositions from around the world. Organized and directed by Sally Lamb, the mixed student-faculty ensemble is designed to provide students with a fun and stimulating opportunity to learn recent music of living composers with the support of music faculty.

The Ithaca College School of Music offers some 300 free concerts each academic year. More information on these performances is available by calling (607) 274-3717 or visiting www.ithaca.edu/concerts.
