ITS and Verizon are working together to install new telephone and voice mail systems on campus in January. The current systems are at the end of their life cycles and are being updated to a modern communication system with many new features and capabilities.

Here are some key points about the new systems:

* All existing phone numbers will stay the same.
* All multi-line (display) phones will be replaced with new models that are compatible with the new phone system.
* Single-line phones will continue to work and will not be replaced.
* All users with individual voicemail will need to re-create their voice mail greeting, passcode, etc.
* Departments with voice mail trees will be contacted by a Verizon representative for assistance with moving to the new voice mail system.

New telephone and voicemail guides will be provided to help with this transition. In addition, training workshops will be available to help users learn about the new multi-line phones. The training schedule will be announced shortly.

ITS and Verizon plan to cut over to the new phone system beginning the evening of January 4th, 2008. Phone service will be interrupted for two to three hours during this process. Helpdesk support will be available once the change is complete.

ITS and Verizon are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. Additional information will be posted to Intercom over the next few weeks.
