We're seeking the best of our best! The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is looking for Ithaca students interested in presenting their undergraduate research at the 22nd National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).
NCUR brings together undergraduates involved in scholarly and artistic activities from more than 300 colleges and universities in the nation, drawing well over 2,200 undergraduates, faculty, and administrators to promote undergraduate research in all fields of study.
The 2008 national conference will be held Thursday, April 10, through Saturday, April 12, at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
A limited number of full travel scholarships will be made available for Ithaca students whose abstracts are selected. The Office of the Provost will work with all selected students to coordinate their conference and travel arrangements.
The first step in the process is to let us know of your interest in being considered; contact Marian Brown ([mailto:mbrown@ithaca.edu]).
Speak with your faculty research adviser about this opportunity, as he or she must sign off on your abstract. The second step is to submit an online abstract of your research project; the deadline for NCUR 2008 abstract submission is December 1, 2007.
Theatrical or musical performers are encouraged to apply, but your work must have a clear, scholarly research focus. Submission abstracts should:
* State in clear terms the central research question and the purpose of the research.
* Provide a brief discussion of the research methodology.
* State conclusions (either final or anticipated).
* Be well organized.
All abstracts will undergo a rigorous review by a panel of faculty reviewers. Abstract reviewers will evaluate submissions based on the criteria listed above and will assess the overall creativity within the context of the specific academic discipline.
One additional benefit of presenting at NCUR is the opportunity for students to publish their work in the conference proceedings, which are distributed to institutions across the nation. All student presenters at the conference (including students in the performing or visual arts) are invited to submit manuscripts for review by the proceedings board.
