Nicolas Barajas '08 is one of 20 students nationwide selected to participate in the New York Times Student Journalism Institute, held January 2-13 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The institute is an 11-day, hands-on journalism residency program offered to aspiring reporters, editors, photographers, and designers who are student members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
Competitively selected based on an essay he wrote, clips or portfolios he submitted, and his previous journalism experience, Barajas will be offered the opportunity to sharpen his writing, reporting, editing, photography, and multimedia skills while covering current events in the Tucson area and working under newsroom deadlines. He will learn from professional journalists from the New York Times, Boston Globe, and the Times Company's Regional Media Group.
Barajas is a communications management and design major and is currently the online editor of the Ithacan.
