Are you thinking about studying abroad this summer in an Asian country? Consider applying for a Freeman-ASIA Award! Freeman-ASIA is an organization that offers awards of $3,000 to U.S. students needing financial support for summer study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

The primary goal of the Freeman-ASIA Program is to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia by providing them with the information and financial assistance they will need. Awardees are expected to share their experiences with their home campuses to encourage study abroad in Asia by others, and to spread greater understanding of Asian cultures within their home communities.

Applicants must currently receive need-based financial aid or demonstrate through FAFSA a verifiable need for financial assistance to study abroad in Asia. Applicants must also plan to study in one of the following countries or regions: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.

The award application deadline for the upcoming summer is March 5, 2008. Summer awards are available for students applying to study abroad programs of eight weeks or more with a start date between May and July 2008.
