Representatives from Safe Kids Buckle Up will be at the Family Carnival informing kids and their parents about how to properly restrain themselves while riding in a motor vehicle. The Family Carnival will take place Friday, February 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ithaca College Fitness Center.
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to answer questions and help assist parents in choosing the proper seat for their child, as well as determine if a child is ready for a seat belt.
The focus of this event will be the forgotten "tween" age group of 8- to 12-year-olds who are often moved from a booster seat to a seat belt before they are ready (as well as allowed) to sit in the front seat. The safest spot in the car for this age group is the back seat in the proper restraint.
There will be games and prizes for seat-belt-safe kids! Safe Kids Buckle Up is an initiative of Chevrolet/GM and Safe Kids Worldwide, a global organization dedicated to preventing accidental injury to children.
