WomenSpeak: Tuesday, February 26

WomenSpeak will take place on Tuesday, February 26, from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge of the Campus Center. Join us for an exciting day of lectures, papers, readings of original poetry, fiction and personal essays, music, photography, and much more -- all on the theme of "Telling the Truth."

Here's the schedule for the day:

10:00 a.m.: Katharyn Howd Machan, Writing: "Truth Beauty (All Ye Need to Know): Poems NOT by John Keats"

10:20 a.m.: Pat Spencer, Writing: "Are You Being Productive?"

10:30 a.m.: Sally Parr, Writing, with students from her Women and Writing class: "Coming of Age Stories"

11:00 a.m.: Lendy Krantz, Anthropology/Politics, '09, "A Tale of Dead Cells," an autobiographical reflection on hair and how it has been read in the U.S. and in Bangladesh

11:15 a.m.: Art major Amanda Vella '08, "Autobiography of a Young-woman-writer-painter-seeker Who's Just Trying to Breathe"

11:30 a.m.: Christine Davie, Information Systems and Services, "In God's Image: A Feminist View of Creation"

Noon to 1:00 p.m.: WomenSpeak will adjourn for lunch)

1:00 p.m.: Barbara Audet, Journalism, "Lens, Truth, and Women's View," a lecture on the "feminine" eye

1:30 p.m.: Bianca Fonseca, Belisa González, Kyra Hickman, Taqunda Hughes, and Amelia Kearney: "Speaking Truths as Women of Color"

2:00 p.m.: Kimberly Gazzo, Library Acquisitions Specialist: "One in Ten," a short story reading

2:15 p.m.: Vivian Conger, History/Women’s Studies, with students from her Herstory class: reading from "A Declaration of Sentiments"

2:30 p.m.: Katharine Kittredge, English, and students from her 2008 First Year Seminar: "FYS, PCS, and Becoming an Ex-Hockey Player"

3:00 p.m.: Susan Adams, Writing: "The Naked Lady of Nineteenth-century Theater"

3:15 p.m.: Jess Dayton '08, Cinema and Photography: "Memories Remembered and Forgotten," an autobiographical reading

3:30 p.m.: Louise Mygatt, Music Theory, History, and Composition: "Hip-Hop Women Speaking Out"

Members of the public as well as the Ithaca College community are welcome to attend all or part of WomenSpeak. We encourage attendance by whole classes.
