On Friday, February 29, IC PR Lab students will help Safe Kids Finger Lakes, a chapter of Safe Kids Buckle Up, by hosting driving safety sessions between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. outside of the Beverly J. Martin Elementary School, located next to Greater Ithaca Activities Center, at 318 North Albany Street, in downtown Ithaca. GIAC will be hosting its annual Black History Month Talent Show afterwards from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
During the safety sessions, two cars from Maguire Chevrolet will be showcased as a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician demonstrates the proper way for kids to buckle up while riding in a vehicle. The focus of this event will be the tween age group, but information on how to properly restrain all ages will be available.
SKFL also will have a table right inside the entrance to the talent show, offering informational pamphlets. Door prizes from local organizations will be raffled off during the talent show, along with free giveaways. The public is welcome -- and faculty and administrators are encouraged to bring along their children.
Safe Kids Buckle Up ® is a national program developed by Safe Kids Worldwide, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing childhood injuries among children ages 14 and younger, and sponsored by General Motors Foundation and Chevrolet to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of properly restraining children on every ride. The students are members of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the world's pre-eminent, pre-professional public relations organization, and are participating in the nationwide 2008 Bateman Case Study Competition, which is sponsored by General Motors (GM), under the Chevrolet brand, and Safe Kids Worldwide.
