Next Tuesday through Friday, Buzzsaw and Students for a Just Peace will present a speaker and a photo exhibit representing Palestinian perspectives on the Israeli occupation, as Israel prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Beginning with a speaker on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Ithaca College's Park Auditorium, Mark Turner of the Research Journalism Initiative will give a multimedia presentation about his experiences in Nablus, one of the most volatile cities in the West Bank.
"Into the Grey: Perspectives from Nablus, Palestine" introduces the foundations of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, while also exploring elements of the current political situation and giving veterans of the Palestinian issue a unique look into what is happening on the ground today. Turner's presentation is co-sponsored by the College's politics and history departments.
From March 5 through 7, the photo exhibit Palestine through Our Eyes: 60 Years Since the Nakba will be on display in the main lobby of Campus Center (Egbert Hall). This exhibit features photographs taken by children living in refugee camps in the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Photos and writings explore the children's relationship to the Nakba, the lands of their ancestors, and their lives and experiences in camps now. Introductory panels will help the viewer contextualize the children's work and the Palestinian refugee history.
Both events are free and open to the public.
