H&S Announces Spring 2008 Educational Grant Initiative Awards

The School of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to announce the spring 2008 Educational Grant Initiative Awards. These are awards are supported by the generous donations of alumni to the H&S Ithaca Fund.

Over $14,000 was distributed to support a variety of projects, including:

• students from anthropology, environmental studies, and speech communication presenting papers and posters based on their original research at academic conferences;

• faculty/student collaborations in chemistry, physics, and theater arts;

• support for courses and events including: visiting Indian novelist and critic Kiran Nagakar to meet with students in a course on postcolonial literature taught by Anjali Nerlekar, assistant professor of English; a public lecture by and classroom meetings with Latina author and activist Marjorie Agosin, sponsored by Jewish studies and coordinated by Annette Levine, assistant professor of modern languages and literatures; and a visit to Syracuse by students in the Modern Africa course, taught by David Turkon, assistant professor of anthropology, to meet with representatives of the Central New York Lost Boys' "Cow Project."
