"The Heuristic Power of Art"

Elizam Escobar, Professor of Art, Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico
Faculty presenter: Jennifer Jolly, Assistant Professor of Art History

Elizam Escobar was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1948 and graduated with a fine arts degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1973. He moved to New York City in the early 1970s. From 1980 to 1999, he was in U.S. prisons for his participation in the clandestine struggle for the national independence of Puerto Rico.

At present, he is an art professor in the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de San Juan. He has participated in many anthologies and has several books published on the subjects of art, politics, cultural theory, and his artwork, which has been exhibited widely.

Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Light refreshments will be available.
