Ithaca College, Cornell, and Wells College recently brought the world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company to Ithaca for a multi-week dance residency.

Company members taught at all three schools, as well as giving workshops and classes with local arts-based organizations. The residency culminated with a February 16 performance by the company at Wells College. The Ithaca College portion of the residency was funded by the School of Humanities and Sciences Educational Grant Initiative.

Paul Taylor, an innovator in modern dance, formed his company in the 1950s. A second company, Taylor 2, was formed in 1993. Both companies have toured around the world and won numerous awards. Taylor 1 has recently wrapped up an exclusive, three-week engagement at New York's City Center.

While at IC, the company taught ballet and modern dance classes in the Department of Theatre Arts. Ithaca College students will put this world-class training to good use as they rehearse for IC Theatre's quadrennial dance concert, "Dance: No Translation Needed." Forty students have been cast to tell stories through the language of dance in the styles and traditions of jazz, ballet, modern, and tap. Performances begin March 27. This production features original work by dance faculty Mary Corsaro, Amy O'Brien, Elizabeth Livesay, and Lindsay Gilmour.

Performances of "Dance: No Translation Needed" will be held at 8:00 p.m. on March 25, 27, 28, 29, and at 2:00 p.m. on March 29 and 30. Tickets can be purchased at all Ticket Center outlets including the Ithaca College Theatre ticket office in Dillingham Center. Ticket prices range from $4.50 to $10.00. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more by calling 203-260-9508. For more information, call 607-274-3224 or visit www.ithaca.edu/theatre.
