Calling all faculty and staff to volunteer as discussion leaders for the 2008-09 First-Year Reading Initiative!

As you know, President Williams has selected Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi as the summer reading for the incoming class.

On Tuesday, August 26, the day after Convocation, we propose to convene in the Hill Center to hear two of our distinguished faculty members discuss different perspectives on Persepolis. Students enrolled in the 40 sections of the Ithaca Seminar will then meet with their seminar instructors to discuss the graphic novel. This means that about 800 first-year students (or half of the incoming class) will be accommodated through the Ithaca Seminars.

I estimate a need for about 40 faculty-staff pairs to meet with first-year students not enrolled in an Ithaca Seminar, and with new transfer students.

If you are interested in serving as a discussion leader, would you please send an e-mail stating this to [mailto:fitzgera@ithaca.edu]. I thank you for considering this request.
