***HISTORY OF ASIA MONTH***
May marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, however, most colleges and universities hold the celebrations throughout the month of April while classes are still in session. The month of celebration was first established in 1990 to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Celebrate the rich diversity of the Asian Pacific American community with the Asian Culture Club this month. For a list of the month’s festivities e-mail icasiancultureclub@yahoo.com.
