The outstanding performance of Ithaca at the Lincoln-Douglas Open Championships caps off a season of excellence for the Speech and Debate Team. The team started the year hosting the British National Team and then competed in 11 tournaments.

The team entered a variety of events, including Lincoln-Douglas and Parliamentary Style debating and individual events including prose, poetry, duo, and after-dinner speaking. Recent outstanding performances include Galen Danskin '11 capturing the National Rookie Champion title, and the team's performance at the Northeast Regional Championships (recently held at Suffolk University in Boston, where the team had a remarkable performance).

At the regionals, Galen Danskin finished fifth in debate, Dan Parks '09 finished in second place in prose and sixth in duo, Karolena Greenidge '10 finished fourth in dramatic interpretation and sixth in duo, and Tamar Mackay '10 finished in fifth in prose.

In a March tournament at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, Nicole Reustle '09 was a semifinalist and third-place overall speaker, and Galen Danskin was a quarterfinalist and second-place overall speaker.

In February, Nicole Reustle finished in third place in debate at Suffolk University, where she also was recognized as second speaker.

At the start of the spring semester the team traveled to Montreal, Quebec, for a tournament hosted by the Collegiate Forensics Association. Dan Parks finished third in prose and after-dinner speaking, and Galen Danskin, Alyssa Sogor '08, and Nicole Reustle finished in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively, in debate.
