On April 6, 2008, 115 physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students from the central region of the state enjoyed a full day of events at the New York Physical Therapy Association Regional Student Conclave. The event was designed by students and faculty from Broome Community College, Clarkson University, and Ithaca College, and took place at Ithaca College.

In addition to these programs, students attended from Herkimer County Community College and SUNY Canton. Scott Ward, PT, Ph.D., president of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), was the keynote speaker and reviewed the six tenets of Vision 2020. The afternoon session opened with a presentation by labor relations consultant Jack Ahern, who covered issues important to consider for the first employment position.

The remainder of the event consisted of concurrent sessions on childhood obesity (Denise Abrams and Julianne Martin from Broome Community College), aquatic therapy (Chris McNamara from Ithaca College), constrained induced therapy (George Fulk from Clarkson University), and lower extremity taping (Mike Buck and Nick Quarrier from Ithaca College). Participants were able to attend three of the four sessions.

The nominal fee for the event was designed to cover expenses and provide a donation to the Marquette Challenge to support research in physical therapy through the Foundation for Physical Therapy. Participants were energized by the event to meet with APTA leaders and learn about clinical issues.
