The Health Promotion Committee, in collaboration with student organizations and the Division of Student Life and Campus Affairs (SACL), encourages interested students, staff, and faculty to join us for our first planning meeting for National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) 2008, which will be observed at Ithaca College September 21–27.

The goal of NCAAW is to reduce high-risk drinking and its negative consequences by:

Past events have included a variety of presenters (comedians, young people in recovery, inspirational speakers), workshops and interactive learning events (Drive Drunk on the Quad, IC Commons, Mocktails, and more), as well as alcohol-free social events.

Alcohol is used by approximately 80 percent of our student body. Many students are responsible about their use of alcohol and drink in a way that doesn't hurt themselves or others; however, some students engage in high-risk drinking, which can result in accidents, sexual assault, disruption within the IC community, and social and academic difficulties.

Please join us to plan for a week of engaging presentations and events that will encourage students to be thoughtful about their decisions regarding drinking. If you are interested but not able to attend the meeting on April 24, please contact Priscilla Quirk, coordinator of health promotion and substance abuse prevention (607-274-3136; [mailto:pquirk@ithaca.edu]).
