Paula Miller, women's swimming and diving head coach at Ithaca College, has been named the 2008 recipient of the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Service Award. Miller, who has served as the association's swimming chair and as a member of the NYSWCAA executive council, will receive her award May 12 at the NYSWCAA annual award banquet in Cooperstown.
Miller recently completed her 24th season as Ithaca women's swimming and diving coach (she also spent three seasons coaching Ithaca's men's team), where she has posted a record of 184-48-2. She is a two-time NCAA Coach of the Year (1987 and 1999) and has earned coach-of-the-year honors five times from the NYSWCAA.
Her teams have won 20 conference titles, 15 state championships, and recorded 17 top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships. She has coached 70 athletes to a total of 449 all-America finishes, including two individual national champions and three national record-holders.
Miller is a 1973 graduate of Bridgewater State and was inducted into her alma mater's hall of fame in 1990.
