Professor Michael Trotti of the history department published this month with UNC Press a book entitled: The Body in the Reservoir: Murder and Sensationalism in the South.
The book emphasizes how much sensational stories of violence changed over time as well as how different were the stories of violence in the black community compared to those in the white community. A study of the press, images, the gallows, and changing narratives, this book is the first to study these issues in the history of the American South.
Professor Trotti will give a reading from this book at the Bookery II, Dewitt Mall, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. All are welcome.
