Three School of Music ensembles will present FREE concerts in the next week: the Concert Band, the Period Instrument Performance Ensemble, and the Symphonic Band. More details are below.
• The Concert Band, under Mark Fonder's direction, will present a program entitled "Tales of a Traveler" on Wednesday, April 30, at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall. Among the compositions to be performed are "Bali," "Funa-Uta," "Gulliver's Travels," and "La Fiesta Mexicana."
• The Period Instrument Performance Ensemble, directed by Nicholas Walker, will perform on Thursday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall. The program includes J.S. Bach's "Coffee Cantata" and music by Couperin, Castello, Frescobaldi, and others.
• The Symphonic Band, led by Elizabeth Peterson, offers a concert entitled "Characters" on Thursday, May 1, at 8:15 in Ford Hall. "Variations on America" by Charles Ives, "Casey at the Bat," and Elgar's "Enigma Variations" are on the program.
