Submitted on behalf of Kathleen Rountree, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

I am pleased to announce the selection of Michael Malpass, professor of anthropology, as the newly designated Dana Professor in the Social Sciences. Professor Malpass has a most distinguished reputation of leadership at the College, school, and department levels.

A committee of senior faculty, convened by dean Howard Erlich, reviewed nominations and selected Michael based on his record of excellence in teaching, his impressive scholarly record, and his significant contributions to the department, school, and College.

In addition to a stipend, the award includes three credits of annual release time. In speaking of Malpass's selection as Dana professor, Dean Erlich reflected that he believes "Michael's excellence in teaching and academic advising, distinguished scholarship, and extraordinary leadership fully epitomize the school's values and aspirations."
