Congratulations to the three members of the Ithaca College community being honored at Women's Expo 2008, sponsored by Cayuga Radio Group. Cynthia Henderson, Deb Mohlenhoff, and Beverly Baker are among the "20 Outstanding Women You Should Know," a group selected for their interesting and inspiring stories from the dozens of nominees representing local women with diverse careers, backgrounds, volunteer activities, and family lives.
Women's Expo 2008 is being held on Thursday, May 8, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the TC3 sports complex in Dryden. The free public event will feature interactive exhibits, fashion shows, entertainment, wine tasting and door prizes.
An associate professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, Cynthia Henderson has a number of stage performing and directing credits, and has been active in serving both the local and international communities. She has facilitated several theater projects, including Voice Suspended with the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC). She spent the 2003–4 academic year on a Fulbright scholarship in Cameroon; out of that experience she wrote and produced the documentary Road Trip: Demystifying HIV/AIDS.
As the assistant director of community service and leadership development, Deb Mohlenhoff '92 has spearheaded innumerable volunteer programs linking Ithaca College students with the wider community. From coordinating the annual Celebration of Service and Community Plunge, to organizing the Relay for Life and relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims, to chairing the Ithaca Forward organization for young local professionals, she has been a force for positive change.
Beverly Baker '54 gives generously of her time, talent, and resources not only to her alma mater but also to a host of local institutions. Honored with the Ithaca College Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995, the founder of Baker Travel is a local institution herself. She has served in leadership roles in organizations ranging from Historic Ithaca to the Baden-Powell Council of the Boy Scouts of America to the Ithaca Rotary Club, exemplifying that organization's motto: "Service above Self."
