Submitted on behalf of Kathleen Rountree, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

A number of changes are taking place within the Office of the Provost regarding the reorganization of roles and responsibilities, in order to best meet changing needs throughout the Division of Academic Affairs.

Karen Johnson, executive assistant to the dean in the School of Humanities and Sciences, will join the provost's office on August 18 as manager of administrative operations, and will work closely with the budget managers in each school on fiscal and personnel matters.

Tanya Saunders, dean of the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, director of international programs, and assistant provost, has a new office location in CHS and will focus her energies on the first two of those titles beginning October 1. An internal search for a two-year interim assistant provost is underway.

David García, associate provost, will be on leave next spring as a fellow of the American Council of Education. This fall, he will be on special assignment in the dean's office of the School of Humanities and Sciences, assisting new dean Leslie Lewis with special projects.

Carol Henderson, programs director in the Division of Graduate and Professional Studies, will join the provost's office as acting associate provost from September 1, 2008, to June 1, 2009, during David García's absence.

These changes are the culmination of a six-month study of the provost's office which included an external consultant's visit and report. Ithaca is very fortunate to have a strong cadre of talented individuals who can fulfill key leadership roles, and who exhibit the flexibility and dedication to accept new challenges when the need arises.

I appreciate the cooperation and eagerness of those who are embracing new roles, as well as the dedication of other staff within the office who will help make these transitions possible. I believe Ithaca College will be well served by the provost's office personnel in the coming year.
