I am pleased to announce that Carol G. Henderson will be stepping in as acting associate provost, beginning September 1. Carol is currently programs director in the Division of Graduate and Professional Studies, having moved to Ithaca from Washington State last summer to join the EcoVillage at Ithaca as part of a longtime personal commitment to environmental and community sustainability.

She will serve in this capacity until June, while David García, associate provost, is on special assignment in the School of Humanities and Sciences this fall, and then on leave as an American Council of Education Fellow in spring 2009.

Prior to arriving here at IC, she served for five years as vice president for academic affairs at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, and also for five years as Instructional Dean at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon, in addition to 13 years as a faculty member at COCC and at Keene State College in New Hampshire. She brings to this interim appointment a strong background in assessment, accreditation, faculty development, and program/curriculum development.

Henderson holds a Ph.D. in educational policy from the University of Oregon, a master's in librarianship and information systems from the University of Denver, and a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from St. Lawrence University. She has also been a student in the Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies, and recently completed Sutrayana Seminary at Karme Choling in Vermont.
