First-Year Residence Hall Program Seeks Faculty Fellow

Are you interested in interacting with first-year students outside of the classroom? Would you like to be part of fostering a culture of interaction between students and faculty within the first-year residence halls?

If the answer to this question is yes, please consider serving as a faculty fellow for the First-Year Residence Hall Program.

The First-Year Residence Hall Program started in 1995 as a program to bring first-year students together and provide an atmosphere where they would easily transition to college and build strong relationships with their peers. The program has been growing and expanding ever since. It is housed in Rowland, Boothroyd, and Tallcott halls in the Quads area.

We are hoping to create a more academic atmosphere in the area by including faculty fellows. We are specifically looking for one faculty member to:

  1. Participate in an resident assistant (RA) staff opening session or staff meeting to get to know the student staff and the program. These staff members will help to support and promote faculty programs and involvement throughout the year.
  2. Meet with the program coordinating group or resident director (RD) monthly to plan
  3. Participate in opening weekend: greet and welcome first-year students and their families
  4. Participate in two socials during early fall semester and an end-of-year social (planned by the RA staff)
  5. Present two programs later in the fall semester. These programs will be discussed and planned for in the monthly meetings.
  6. Work with a group of students to plan an event during spring semester -- a community service project, attending a cultural event locally, etc. The fellow would meet with students to select and plan the event, attend with the students, and lead a follow-up program or discussion.
  7. Make efforts to be available to student- in particular those not participating in Ithaca Seminars -- share office hours, invite them to a special program, etc.

Faculty fellows must be full-time faculty members, and are eligible to receive a stipend or educational resource grant of $1,100 a year for their work with the community.
