Ithaca College was informed on Thursday afternoon that if contract negotiations between Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) and Local 2300 of the United Auto Workers are not concluded by midnight tonight, Sept. 11, drivers may go on strike and bus service could be halted beginning the morning of Friday, Sept. 12.
With the recent creation of new parking spaces on campus, Ithaca College should be able to accommodate the additional number of faculty, staff and students who may need to drive to campus as a result of the strike.
Those who do not already have a parking permit can go to the Office of Parking and Traffic Services, located in the Center for Public Safety and General Services, to obtain a free temporary parking permit good for the length of the bus service interruption. They will be told which parking lots the temporary permits can be used for.
If there is a strike, the Office of Parking and Traffic Services will open early at 8:00 a.m. on Friday and be open for service all day until 4:30 p.m. The office will resume regular operating hours, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning on Monday. More information on parking and traffic services is available online.
Updated information on the status of bus service is available on the TCAT website at tcatbus.com and by phone at (607) 277-RIDE (7433).
