The Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen film series will feature a double-feature screening of two documentaries, Act of Faith and I Exist, on Monday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m. in Williams 323. This is a location change from earlier announcements.
Act of Faith, a documentary short, explores the struggles of gay Muslims and poses the question, "Can one be gay and Muslim at the same time?" I Exist tells the stories of lesbian and gay people of Middle Eastern cultures living in the United States, who must frequently combat the negative stereotypes revolving around both their sexuality and their heritage. The film shows the journey many take in learning how to join both their cultural heritage and sexual identity.
Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year will explore sexual orientation and identity through the lens of faith. The series will present a total of eight films during the fall semester; additional screenings will take place this spring. All are free and open to the public.
