Study-Abroad Scholarships from the Institute of International Education (IIE)

The Institute of International Education (IIE) sponsors a variety of scholarships for students planning a summer, semester, or year abroad. Deadlines are rapidly approaching for the spring 2009 award cycle. These scholarships are awarded in increments up to $5,000 (and sometimes more) per semester.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship is open to undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens and who wish to study abroad. Students may apply for programs worldwide, though preference will be given to applications for programs outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. To be eligible you must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant. Summer-only not eligible. The application deadline is October 7 for spring 2009 programs.

Freeman-Asia Awards for Study in Asia

The Freeman-Asia program is open to undergraduate students who wish to study in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Macao, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Fall, spring, and summer cycles are available. The application deadline is October 15 for spring 2009 programs.
