Come support Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as they speak out about their experiences and reasons for standing against war, and join us in marching to demand fair benefits for veterans.
On Saturday, October 4th, the Veterans group IVAW (Iraq Veterans Against the War) will be hosting an event called Winter Soldier, which will bring together antiwar student, community and veterans groups from across the northeast to support and march with veterans who oppose war. The Rochester IVAW website describes it as follows:
"The purpose of North East Winter Soldier is first and foremost to put the voices of those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan front and center. Their voices and their testimony stand as one of the strongest indictments of this illegal war and occupation. But it goes beyond that, we want to grow the veterans antiwar movement and the domestic antiwar movement. To this end, after hearing the testimony we will march out of the venue toward a VA outpatient center to demand better healthcare for vets and soldiers."
IC's chapter of CAN, the Campus Antiwar Network, will be providing transportation to this event. We will meet at the pub and leave at 9:30 AM Sat, Oct 4, and will return sometime around 9:00 PM the same day. Snacks will be provided.
This event presents a great way to connect with the larger antiwar community, and to begin learning and building towards a movement which can end the war. If you are interested in joining us, or can give rides, please contact CampusAntiWarNetIC@gmail.com.
