The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is looking for Ithaca students interested in presenting their undergraduate research on a national level.

The 23nd National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) will bring together undergraduates involved in scholarly and artistic activities from more than 300 colleges and universities in the nation, drawing well over 2,200 undergraduates, faculty, and administrators to promote undergraduate research in all fields of study.

The 2009 national conference will be held from Thursday, April 16, through Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. A limited number of travel scholarships will be made available for Ithaca students whose abstracts are selected.

The Office of the Provost will work with all selected students to coordinate their conference and travel arrangements. It is expected that participants will make advance arrangements with their professors to fulfill all academic obligations in order to attend the full conference (including a day to travel on Wednesday, April 15), and that they will cover the costs of some of their own meals.

The first step in the process is to let us know of your interest in being considered; please contact Marian Brown at [mailto:mbrown@ithaca.edu].

The second step is to submit an online abstract of your research project. Speak with your faculty research adviser about this opportunity, as he or she must sign off on your abstract. The deadline for NCUR 2009 abstract submissions is December 1, 2008.

Submission abstracts should:

All abstracts will undergo a rigorous review by a panel of faculty reviewers. Abstract reviewers will evaluate submissions based on the criteria listed above and will assess the overall creativity within the context of the specific academic discipline.

One additional benefit of presenting at NCUR is the opportunity for students to publish their work in the conference proceedings, which are distributed to institutions across the nation. All student presenters at the conference -- including students in the performing and visual arts -- are invited to submit manuscripts for review by the Proceedings Board.
