The Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra will open its season with a free concert conducted by Jeffery Meyer on Sunday, October 12, at 4:00 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.
The program will open with a Respighi work inspired by three paintings by Botticelli and continue with "Commedia for (Almost) 18th-Century Orchestra," composed in 1972 by William Bolcom. Bolcom is the fall visiting professor in composition at the School of Music. The concert concludes with Beethoven's seventh symphony.
The Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra, comprised of 30 to 40 of the School of Music's top string, wind, and percussion players, is dedicated to performing string and chamber orchestra repertoire from the baroque through the twentieth century, as well as contemporary works of our time.
The ICCO is directed by Jeffery Meyer and presents approximately four to six performances per year. Recent activities have included a week-long performance tour of Ireland. All members are chosen through audition in the fall of each academic year.
The Ithaca College School of Music presents nearly 300 free concerts and recitals each year. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/concerts or call 607-274-3717.
