Conductor of the Ithaca College Orchestras Jeffery Meyer recently took third place in the Tenth Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Orchestra Conductors.

The preliminary rounds for acceptance took place in early 2008 in Italy, Canada, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Belgium. Out of these several hundred conductors, 40 were chosen to participate in the trials in Italy; Meyer was one of only only four Americans selected.

The competition consisted of five rounds of major orchestra repertoire, including works with soloists, opera, works with choir, and works for orchestra alone. The first two elimination rounds resulted in seven semifinalists, who were presented in concert in Trento. The final rounds consisted of two concerts with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, after which Meyer was awarded third prize.
