Michael Whelan, assistant professor of speech communication, has been named to two prominent arbitration panels.
Whelan, who teaches courses in courtroom advocacy and conflict resolution as communication phenomena, was named to the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Labor Panel and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Roster of Arbitrators.
Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution in which contracting parties agree to submit their disputes to arbitrators, rather than courts, for final and binding resolution.
Arbitrators selected from the AAA Labor Panel are used by unions and employers under collective bargaining agreements to resolve disputes. Arbitrators on the FINRA roster decide cases in the securities industry.
