Family Weekend 2008
Our parent keynote address features Brooke Johnson, President of the Food Network (Saturday, 9:00 a.m., Park School auditorium). Mrs. Johnson's daughter is a senior cinema and photography major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
The student performance showcase (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., Emerson Suites) will feature ICircus, Tap, Rock Hard Dance Company, Hip Hop, Dance Team, and many more student performing organizations.
Two faculty keynote addresses will featuring Steven Seidman, associate professor and chair of the Department of Strategic Communication, on "Posters, Propaganda, and Persuasion in Election Campaigns," and Beth Ellen Clark Joseph, associate professor of physics, on "Ithaca College's Commitment to Carbon Neutrality" (Friday, Klingenstein lounge, 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively).
The School of Music will present three concerts in Ford Hall. Friday night will feature the Concert Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble at 8:15 p.m.; Saturday night will showcase the Symphonic Band and Jazz Workshop, also at 8:15 p.m.; and the Choral Ensembles will close the weekend's musical performances at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to attend throughout the weekend. The families of our students are looking forward to meeting the people their students interact with at the College.
The full schedule of events is available online. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend as many of the non-ticketed events as you would like. Bring your family as well. (Ticketed events have limited seating reserved for students' families, although seats may be available at showtime.)
Students whose parents are unable to attend are also welcome to attend any non-ticketed events. Students who would like to attend ticketed events can stop by the registration area in the north foyer of Phillips Hall beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday to check on ticket availability.
The Family Weekend luncheon will be on Saturday, November 1, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Terrace Dining Hall. We welcome and strongly encourage faculty and staff to attend this luncheon; there is no cost to IC faculty and staff who wish to attend. You will be treated to marvelous music provided by the student jazz trio of Zack Avshalomov, Alejandro Bernard-Papachryssanthou, and Pat Murphy, as well as by the faculty and staff choir IC VoICes. You will also have the opportunity to meet the parents of many of our students.
