Do you love to dance? Do you have a desire to work with the community? You can do both! Consider becoming involved with a committed group of artists who are participating in an intergenerational dance residency with senior citizens from Longview and IC students. Choreographer Martha Bowers (http://www.dancetheatreetcetera.org) will be coming to campus for a week-long residency in March and building a new dance. This project is made possible by a grant from IC’s Linden Center for Creativity and Aging (https://www.ithaca.edu/lindencenter). For more information about the residency, please call or e.mail Susie Monagan at 274-3915 and smonagan@ithaca.edu.

Martha Bowers’ company, Dance, Theatre, Etc. is “premised on the belief that the arts are an effective vehicle for social transformation. Dance Theatre Etcetera unites artists and community members as co-creators in dynamic cultural activities. Through site-specific performances, festivals, parades, and performing arts and media education programs, Dance Theatre Etcetera stimulates the social imagination through acts of informed expression.”

The Linden Center for Creativity and Aging was inaugurated on October 11, 2007 by a generous gift from Judi and Jay Linden. The Lindens recognize the need to better understand the links between aging and creativity and the opportunities aging presents for all persons and institutions in society. In particular, they believe it is critical for college students and programs, regardless of discipline, to embrace these opportunities and use them to create new knowledge, products, and art. To that end, they have established the Linden Center for Creativity and Aging within the Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College.
