Three Ithaca College students presented research findings at the annual Society for Neuroscience meetings in Washington, D.C. The students are all currently doing research with Jean Hardwick in the Department of Biology.
The society's meetings are the preeminent gathering of neuroscientists from around the world. Attendance at this year's meetings was approximately 31,000 individuals.
At the main meeting, Caitlin Baran '08, a biochemistry major, presented a poster entitled "Regulation of Neuronal Excitability and NOS Expression in the Guinea Pig Intrinsic Cardiac Plexus by Chronic Cardiac Stressors." Caitlin received a competitive travel award from the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience to support her attendance at the meeting.
Biology students Lauren Houdek '09 and Allison Girasole '10 also presented a poster at the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience poster session, a venue specifically for undergraduate research. The poster was entitled "Characterization of Guinea Pig Intracardiac Neurons: A Phenotypic and Electrophysiological Analysis." Lauren and Allison received support from the Bernard Fund to support their travel to the meeting.
