The Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, under Jeffery Meyer's direction, will present a free concert celebrating the birthdays of Olivier Messiaen and Elliot Carter on Saturday, December 6 at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall at Ithaca College.
Allen Yu, the winner of the High School Piano Competition, will be the featured soloist in the first movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto in A major, K. 488. The program will conclude with Tchaikovsky's fifth symphony.
Elliot Carter [pictured at right], who will turn 100 on December 11, will be represented by his "Three Illusions for Orchestra," composed in 2004. Olivier Messian, born just one day before Carter on December 10, 1908, will have his "Un Sourire" ("A Smile") performed. Messiaen died in 1992.
