An enthusiastic kudos goes to Denise Nuttall of the Department of Anthropology for arranging and coordinating the November 4 South Asia musical event.

Captivating a large audience in the Hockett Recital Hall was one of India's leading Hindustani (Indian classical) vocalists, Shubha Mudgal, tabla player Aneesh Pradhan, sarangi maestro Murad Ali, and harmonimum player Suddhir Nayak.

Bringing these world-renowned musicians to Ithaca College was an enormous task, including coordinating the appreciated support from the School of Humanities and Sciences; faculty of Music, History, Politics; Diversity Awarenesss Committee; Office of Multicultural Affairs; Muslim Cultures program in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies; the H&S Honors Club; Asian Students Club; and Anthropology Club!

From this event, many students carried out writing projects in everything from analyzing the structure of the music to an introduction of world music to comprehending Indian performance forms focusing on body disposition and bodily gestures, including the culturally contextualized meaning in performance.
