It is with a great deal of sadness that I inform the campus community of the death of one of our students. Saverio Montanino passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, in his residence hall room. There is no foul play suspected in his death at this time, though the investigation is continuing pending the findings of the medical examiner. This announcement to the campus community was withheld until his family could be notified.
Saverio was a sophomore majoring in outdoor adventure leadership in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. He was an active member of the College's outdoor adventure learning community. A resident of Manalapan, New Jersey, he graduated in 2007 from the Marine Academy of Science and Technology.
Counselors, chaplains, and members of the Ithaca College Mental Health Response Team will be available throughout the day at Muller Chapel for those seeking assistance. A formal gathering for members of the campus community to support one another will be held at Muller Chapel at 7:00 p.m. this evening (Thursday, December 11). Anyone needing help may contact the Counseling Center at 274-3136 for more information on support services.
We extend our deepest sympathies, as well as our thoughts and prayers, to Saverio's family, friends, and classmates at this difficult time. Please look to Intercom for any announcements concerning funeral arrangements or memorial services.
