On behalf of the search committee for the vice president for enrollment management, I am pleased to announce the visit of our next finalist.

On February 3 and 4, Douglas Swartz will be on campus for a variety of activities, including a public forum. He will give a talk, “Successful Enrollment Strategies in a Challenging Environment,” on Tuesday, February 3, noon-1:00 p.m. in Emerson A.

Mr. Swartz brings over 26 years of recruitment, marketing, financial aid, budget management, and staff supervision experience. He began his 16-year career at Walsh University (1982) as the assistant director of admissions, and five years later became the director of admissions. During his tenure at Walsh, Mr. Swartz coordinated all things admission, including: tour guides, overnight visitations, publications, scholarship programs, and open houses.

Mr. Swartz then moved from Walsh to Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, to become the dean of enrollment management. During his appointment at Westminster he met or exceeded enrollment goals seven out of the eight years he was dean.

As vice president for enrollment management at Wittenberg University, Douglas Swartz led the college to new levels of enrollment success, setting institutional records for applications (up 39 percent), acceptances (up 20 percent), campus visits (a 20 percent increase), and quality. Mr. Swartz utilized a new “PURL” (personalized web address) approach to student search to improve yield by 4 points (6 percent). In addition, he was able, through the revamping of “Lead Development” communication flow, and new publications, to achieve new student class of 600 (ten over budget) with a five-point reduction in discount rate and $600,000 in excess revenue in fall of 2007.

In September 2008, Mr. Swartz joined Scott Healy and Associates, a national enrollment management consulting and executive search firm, as a consultant. He currently is on assignment as the interim vice president for enrollment management at Marlboro College in Vermont.

He received his master of arts from Walsh University in counseling and earned his bachelor of arts from Malone College in communications.

The campus community is invited and encouraged to attend Mr. Swartz’s public presentation. Applicant evaluation forms will be provided and the search committee welcomes your feedback.
