Pianist Charis Dimaras will join with fellow pianist Karl Lutchmayer and soprano Linda Larson in early February for two free recitals featuring the music of Olivier Messiaen.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the two pianists will perform “Visions d’Amen” at 7 p.m. in Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music. Written in 1943 for the composer and his second wife Yvonne Loriod, who was also a pianist, the piece explores the mystical four meanings of the word “Amen,” which are: the Amen uttered by the Creator in creating, the Amen of obedience to the divine will, the Amen of longing for union with God, and the Amen of the eternal consummation of everything in Paradise.

On Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center, soprano Linda Larson and Dimaras will perform Messiaen’s song cycle “Songs of Earth and Heaven.” The program will also feature Cipullo’s 2001 song cycle “Late Summer” as well as the music of Schubert, Schoenberg, and Debussy.

The Ithaca College School of Music presents nearly 300 free concerts and recitals each year. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/concerts or call (607) 274-3717.
