During the final week of the fall semester, the AiRES Saxophone Quartet (Rachel Kininger '12, Allyce Barron '11, Erika Friedman '12, and Sara Emery '12), traveled to local retirement centers and performed holiday classics for the residents to enjoy. This "Christmas Tour" included performances at Bridges-Cornell Heights, Oak Hill Manor, the Beech Tree Care Center, and the Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Freshman Eric Troiano joined AiRES on three of their concerts. This act of community outreach is the main focus of the Ithaca College Saxophone Society, a new organization formed in Fall 2008. The ICSS plans to continue implementing outreach programs, including student clinics at local public schools, providing low-cost lessons, and performing for charity functions.
The society will be presenting a saxophone concert on Saturday, February 21 at 3:00 p.m. in Ford Auditorium. This concert, which will feature music for saxophone quartets and a large saxophone ensemble, is free and open to the public.
