Thomas R. Rochon will be inaugurated as the eighth president of Ithaca College on Friday, April 17. To help usher in this new era in IC history, two days of activities have been planned for April 16-17 that focus on the College's academic excellence.

For more information, continue to check the inauguration website.

Preinaugural Events, Thursday, April 16

The campus community is invited to the annual James J. Whalen Academic Symposium, 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following. This annual presentation of student research and creative work is a wonderful showcase of the College's academic strengths, and this year many of our donors have also been invited to attend. (Information on the symposium, including how to be a presenter, is available on the symposium's website.) Planning is under way for student preinaugural celebrations Thursday evening—watch Intercom for more details.

Preinaugural Events, Friday, April 17

The campus community is also invited to join College donors and visiting guests for two presentations Friday morning in Park Auditorium, starting at 10:00 a.m. Dianne Lynch, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, will present "Twitter Me: What Kids Know about Digital Worlds—and Why It Matters." This will be followed by "Creativity and Aging," presented by Susan Perlstein, director of education and training at the National Center for Creative Aging, which is collaborating on a national conference this fall with the Gerontology Institute and IC's Linden Center for Creativity and Aging.

Inauguration Ceremony, Friday, April 17, 3:00 p.m., Ben Light Gymnasium, Hill Center

Faculty members have been invited to join the academic procession for this event. Please take a moment to let us know whether you plan to march by calling Peggy Termina (274-3041) or sending an e-mail to ptermina@ithaca.edu by Friday, February 13.

The entire campus community is invited to attend the inauguration ceremony, followed by a campus reception. Robert D. Putnam, the Peter and Isabel Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, will be the inaugural guest speaker. Seating will be limited, and tickets will be required for this free event. More information on obtaining tickets will be available on Intercom and on the inauguration website in mid-March.
